Position: Assistant Farm Manager

Job Summary: The Assistant Farm Manager will manage, with assistance and limited oversight, all aspects of our production at Handsome Harvest Farm. Over a period of 6 months you will learn all the systems and procedures of our established organic fruit, vegetable and cut flower operation as you slowly take on more job responsbilities. The Assistant Manager will also train new staff and assists in marketing and sales.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside farm crew in all production related activities – harvest/wash/pack, seeding/transplanting, pest/weed management etc.
  • Coordinate and execute weekly task sheets prepared by the farm manager
  • Assist farm manager in the overall management of the farm crew – maintain friendly and professional communication with farm crew
  • Maintain farm equipment and tools – ensure tools are returned to the appropriate locations and keep all supplies tidy and organized
  • Maintain farm record keeping and logs
  • Saturday Farmers Market – prepare van for market and keep supplies stocked, setup market stand, greet customers and operate cash register, keep produce stocked
  • Coordinate CSA and restraunt delivieres – load van, drive and deliver in a professional and safe manner
  • Assist farm manager in keeping all needed supplies on hand
  • Social media marketing

Job Qualifications:

  • Farming or similar outdoor work experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation and ability to arrive at the farm on time ready to work
  • Able to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Able to keep working during the entire work day (besides designated breaks)
  • Be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • Able to maintain communication with the team in a friendly and professional manner
  • Positive attitude, upbeat and caring for coworkers even when tasks are difficult

Hours:
Approximately 40 hours per week. Must be available to work:

  • Tuesday-Friday 8AM-5PM
  • Saturdays Farmers Market/Deliveries 6AM-1PM

Compensation:

  • Compensation starts at $14 per hour
  • Free vegetarian lunch provided during full work days
  • Free produce from the farm
  • Year end bonus

After 6 months Training:

  • Compensation increases to $15 per hour
  • Start accruing paid vacation time – 2 weeks paid vacation per year & at least one week must used in August

Health insurance and disability insurance are not provided. Employees are encouraged to carry their own health insurance. Employees are required to complete form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification and a W-4 upon hire.
